constitutional monarchy
Monarchy. A form of civilization.
Absolute Monarchy
Monaco.
The United Kingdom.
Monarchy comes in two varieties, absolute monarchy and constitutional monarchy. That is to say, the monarch can be a dictator, or can preside over a more democratic state. In the absolute version, monarchy would be an example of autocracy. In the constitutional monarchy the ruler's powers are very limited because of the Constitution and laws of the nation.
Some non-examples of monarchy include republics, where the head of state is usually an elected official rather than a hereditary monarch. Another non-example would be a dictatorship, where a single individual or a small group holds absolute power without the traditional monarchy structure. Additionally, oligarchies, where power is concentrated in the hands of a few individuals or families, are also not examples of monarchy.
The United Kingdom is a monarchy. Until the revolution, France was a monarchy as was (and some still are) most of the countries of Europe. Any civilization with discrete boundaries and a royal family was/is a monarchy...example Ancient Egypt. There has to be a single king or queen.
The United Kingdom is governed by a constitutional monarchy.
