What is the capital of Ukraine

Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine, is one of the oldest cities of Eastern Europe, having been founded, according to legend, in 462 AD. It is situated on the right and the left banks of the river Dnipro (Dnieper) and its current population is 2.5 million people.

Historically, other cities have served as Ukrainian capitals. After the fall of Kyivan-Rus, L'viv served as capital of the remaining Halych-Volyn Principality from 1272-1340. Under Mazepa, during the Hetmanate, Baturyn was the capital from 1669-1708, and from 1750-1764. And, after Ukraine's incorporation into the USSR, Kharkiv served as capital of the Ukrainian SSR from 1919-1934.

"Kyiv" is the official transliteration of the Ukrianan name of the city. "Kiev" is the older version of the name, transliterated from the Russian name of the city.
