What is imagination

Imagination is the ability to conceive (think about) a concept solely within the mind, and not by observation or interaction with anything physical. It is the driving force behind all human advancement, because it allows humans to think of things that do not exist, at least not at the time they are imagined.

It is separate from analysis in that it hypothesizes the reason behind an observed phenomenon, and decides how it can be proved or disproved.

Imagination is, in one opinion, lying to oneself : seeing something as it could be or might be rather than the mere fact that it exists. In children, it is common for imagination to transform cardboard boxes into forts, and small toys into battling spaceships.

Imagination is most prevalent in fictional writing, where entire microcosms of existence are brought into being, and where non-existent characters live their lives to demonstrate some particular aspect of the real world. Innumerable books, plays, and films provide these imagined worlds to be shared by others.

To imagine is to think of something that could happen, or something that can never happen; something you wish were true, or something that you can make come true.
