Did God make the universe
A:In the belief system of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Islam and Christianity), God made the universe. In Hinduism, Brahma made the universe. And so on. Scientists say there is no need of a deity to make the universe, but they generally do not comment on religious beliefs.
What was the significance of the Sabbath for early followers of Judaism

The same as its significance today. The origin of the Shabbat is in the Torah (Genesis ch.2, Leviticus ch.23, Exodus ch.20 and many other passages). The Sabbath is a day blessed by God (Genesis ch.2), which He gave it to the Israelites as a treasured gift to be cherished (Talmud, Beitzah 15b). It is a day of rest (Exodus ch.20, ch.31), and a day of strengthening ties with the family, the community, and with God.
