Well Allergies can develop overtime. Often when someone suddenly becomes allergic to something new (particularly food) it is because they ate something that was off/bad and it made them slightly sick. So when you eat that same food the body rejects it, thus creating an allergy to that food.

Can a person with allergies live with an American short haired cat?

That depens on the allergies. Is it a cat allergy, then no. If it's not a cat allergy it's probably alright, unless the person is asthmatic. If the person has sensitive lungs due to allergy, they may have a sensitivity reaction to the cat litter dust or the skin flakes/hair.

Can there be an allergic reaction to sea salt?

You may be or not. It depends on the nature and severity of your allergy or intolerance. For example, I'm allergic to all shellfish. I'm allergic to some fish but not to other fish. However, I am not allergic to sea salt. On the other hand, I have food intolerance to potatoes, tomatoes, and everything else in that particular food/botanical family. Neither can I eat any grains/cereals because they share a botanical relationship. Neither can I eat any legumes for the same reason. In other words, it varies from person to person, just as the symptoms and severity of allergy or intolerance vary from person to person.
