If you can find unsweetened apple sauce (ReddiMaid is one brand) it is okay to use canned, but be sure to read the label carefully. (ReddiMaid has only apples, water and vitamin C: With this diet, no added sugar or corn syrup or ANY sweetener is permitted). If you can't find it or another brand, you can make your own.

Core some apples (remember each apple makes one fruit serving) and boil them until soft. You can peel them if you desire but this is optional. Once softened, MASH the apples with a potato masher, then puree in a blender or food processor until smooth.

Add some stevia to get some sweetness and sprinkle on some cinnamon. I recently did this with some ReddiMaid unsweeteend apple sauce and it is delicious!
