I think Amish people are more modern to wear a pad instead of a rag. So I think they use pads not rags. Just my opinion.
To my knowledge all plain communites with the exception of the strict Schwartzentruber sect of the Amish allow the use of tampons and pads.

Cloth Rags, Women would have a belt around their waist, and long rags were tied to the belt device in the front, thru the legs and tied on the belt in the back. Extra cloth was put in the middle. I am not sure of the material of the belt, could of been cloth.
