According to the laws of Judaism, any child that is born to a Jewish woman is a Jew. There is no event that makes a person Jewish unless they converted to Judaism from a different religion. You may have been thinking of the circumcision ceremony, or the Bar Mitzva.

It depends on which Jew you are. Many slavishly persist in the practice while an increasing number are beginning to see it as a form of genital mutilation that is immoral to perform.

Yes, it is possible. The requirements are: 1. Convince a rabbi to assist you. 2. 1-6 years of study. 3. Go before a religious court to get approval for the conversion. 4. Go to 'mikvah', a ritual bath (NOT the same as a baptism). 5. Circumcision or symbolic circumcision for men.
