Does blocking a sneeze kill brain cells?

I haven't seen any information relating to holding a sneeze and killing brain cells by doing so. However, a sneeze is your body's way of trying to get rid of an irritant as in the form of Allergies, or a cold or flu virus. Holding a sneeze is not a good idea as whatever irritant sitting inside your nose will not be evacuated and may get into the sinuses and other airways and cause infection.

Brain cells do NOT die when a person sneezes. First, if you observe a baby and toddler and counted how many times they sneeze before 2 years old, if your question was true, NO one would have a brain left! Second, brain cells only 'die' under certain conditions, including:

1. lack of blood flow to the brain (such as stroke, TIA)
2. lack of glucose to brain cells
3. brain swelling such as after a severe head injury

It hasn't been proven that stopping your sneeze can kill brain cells by any definitive source that I can find.

However, there is the fact that it does cause ear damage in many cases when a person tries to stifle a sneeze and the main reason that sneezing doesn't kill brain cells is due to how brief the pressure increase associated with a sneeze is upon the brain according to some article I found on Google.

So I would think that stifling a sneeze would kill some brain cells due to the extended amount of time the pressure associated with a sneeze is extended when you keep it from just happening.

Then again, I have no definitive source. Just my own hypothesis, and some research. I will try to find the article that I found relating to this and add it as a link when I have more time.
