Does having O negative blood effect getting pregnant?

No, I have o negative blood group and i have had 3 children . The only thing this ment for me was that i had to have more blood tests while pregnant to check i wasn't developing antibodies to my baby , and after delivery i had a injection of something called anti D to protect future pregnacies. I never had any problems conceiving any of my children.

Rh factor is one of the many proteins carried on the red cells. Rh positive means the protein is present, Rh negative means the protein is not produced and carried on the red cells.

The Rh factor, negative or positive, is the issue here. An individual with negative Rh factor will produce antibodies to fight against any positive factors which are introduced into the body.

IF the fetus has Rh positive blood, and IF any of that blood leaks across the placenta into the mother's blood, the negative Rh mother's body will produce antibodies to fight the Rh factor (positive) which has appeared in her blood. Should any of her blood leak back across the placenta and get into the fetus' blood, it can cause problems for the developing fetus.

This usually only happens after the Rh negative mother has carried more than one Rh positive child. Eventually enough leakage occurs to build up a significant titer (concentration) of antibodies to actually cause difficulty for the third or fourth positive child she carries.

Two things to consider:

1. In the placenta, the mother's blood and the fetus' blood come very near each other, separated by just a membrane and do not mix. This is the "rule," but in actuality, there may be leakage of fetal blood into the mother's blood and vice versa.

2. If the man is Rh positive, he could have a genotype of -/+ and only 50% of their offspring should be Rh positive and 50% should be Rh negative.
