Continuous use of hot irons and curlers will cause the ends of your hair to dry out and become brittle. This will cause the ends of your hair to split or have a white appearance, with no way of repair other than being cut off. The best way to stop or reduce heat damage is to firstly NEVER heat style your hair without it being 100% dry (With the exception of 'Wet 2 straight' straighteners). This severely burns your hair and causes irreversable damage. My advice is to shampoo and condition your hair, then use some form of 'heat defence' hair spray or serum. Any brand will do. Some heat defence sprays you put into damp hair, some you put into dry hair. Just follow the instructions on the back of the product. To reduce the chance of damaging your hair, towel dry your hair until it is just damp, not dripping wet, then blow dry your hair (preferably on a lower heat setting) until it is completely dry. Then heat style as you please. Try not to heat style your hair everyday and certainly not more than once a day! Every 2nd or 3rd day is fine, and this will allow your hair's natural oils to come out. Also, don't heat style your hair a day or so after you wash it, because your hair is more than likely gonna get damaged in the process.
No, it is the same as drying the bottom of your hair.
yes it can damage your hair but that is if you heated it to a maximum level of heat.
A healthy haircut is the only thing that can get rid of heat damaged hair.

heat or hot water
It probably will damage your, even if you put heat protector because it is a permanent straightener.
Hairs are made up of proteins. Proteins get denatured when exposed to heat. If heat is used incorrectly, it can severely damage hair. Similarly, scalp has skin which contains proteins too which can get damaged because of heat. Of course! If you use heat tools on your hair to often it will dry your hair out and you will have split ends and cause breakage of the hair. if you burn your scalp badly enough it will damage your hair follicles and stop hair growth.
