Look up old friends or classmates from that time. Males of course are easier to find in the phone book because their last names never change after marriage. They may remember something around that date that may give you enough clues to remember what happened on that day. You may hit it lucky. Also try going to the school you once use too and see where they keep the old year books and go through them. The school library usually keeps each year book and if the school isn't there any longer then ask your local Heritage Society. I've gone for years without bumping in to any of my classmates and when I was just about to turn 50 I got a phone call from a very old school chum (a woman) and we'd all hung out in a group (8 of us) and we'd lost touch. Bless her heart, she rigged up a night out at a restaurant so we could all celebrate our fiftieth birthdays and we had a blast. We talked over old times and laughed ourselves sick. Then 3 years ago my husband and I were looking for a new sofa and loveseat and we went to a furniture store and this man about my age was the salesman. I kept looking at him trying to place that face and it finally dawned on me he was a classmate of mine throughout Elementary School many moons ago. We were so excited to see each other and catch up on news. I did have him over for dinner (he's single) and we had a great old time and we still continue to keep in touch.
