How can you reduce the spread of malaria?

As for Dengue.... Also known as break bone fever- it is very painful and spread by mosquitoes in tropical areas. It is usally found in the coastal area of Mexico. It takes up to 3 to 14 days after contractng the virus you may develop high fever, muscle and joint pain. There is no vaccination or cure. The prevention is avoiding mosquitoe bites & using Insect repellent containing DEET or PACARIDIN. Wear long sleeves and long loose pants and no sandals.

malaria is one of those diseases that are mainly spread by insects, mosquitoes.

It was in the "early years" fought by using DDT to kill the insects.

This proved very useful, but with adverse effects to the environment due to the very very long half life of this particular insect poison.

DDT is still used at some places in order to kill mosquitoes because as they say, the good effect outweighs the bad.

There have been experiments to genetically modify some mosquitoes so that they become sterile and the lab results are positive. Whether this approach is in use today in any large scale application is by me unknown.

Malaria is a tiny parasite and due to this, it is not something that can be defeated with ordinary medicine like penicillin.

Another possibly working approach is to let fish out in the waters where the mosquitoes hatch their eggs. This approach has proven useful where there is a lot of water. The problem is all the wet areas where the water is not viable for fish or too shallow for fish.

Malaria is probably a parasite we will have to deal with for many years to come. Like all living creatures, "they" want to live. Like humans, this particular parasite has found the ideal method of becoming widespread.

More genetic research might prove a solution. Find a key element regarding this parasite so that "vaccinated" humans no longer can get this illness.

I am sure this is work in progress, but vaccinating large populations is very costly.
