Pitted keratolysis is a skin condition caused by bacterial infection, typically affecting the feet. It is not contagious and does not spread from person to person. However, it can recur in individuals with certain risk factors, such as excessive sweating or poor foot hygiene. Maintaining proper foot care and hygiene can help prevent its development and recurrence.

Exfoliative cytology is a diagnostic method that involves collecting cells shed from the body's surfaces, typically through techniques like Pap smears for cervical cancer screening. These cells are then examined under a microscope to detect any abnormalities or signs of disease, allowing for early detection and intervention.
