Dead flesh from cut skin (The type that hangs off of the knive edge of a wound) will get very hard and remain somewhat clear or opaque. This is only surface damage and is usually not serious.... Skin lost to flesh wounds will usually be replaced by new skin.

Necrosis is where skin that should be intact (no obvious wound or impact damage is the cause) looks dark and becomes rigid. This is a lack of oxygen, and the beginnings of decay. Dead flesh on any part of your body is extremely dire and serious.

Diabetics are prone to necrosis at and around their feet due to constricted blood flow. Sometimes insect bites (Like the Brown Recluse or Black Widow) can cause mild to serious necrosis at the wound area. Serious burns account for most of the resulting condition, and are critical - Because your skin protects your body from external germs, bacteria and other infectious diseases. If you have any skin on your body that does not look normal, or as it should appear - GET HELP.
