According to the World Health Organization, more than 18,000 people died to the Swine Flu. It is interesting to note that only 398 of those deaths actually happened in Mexico.

The small rural town of La Gloria in the state of Veracruz is the suspected place where everything started (pop: 2,243). The town has several pig farms.

The first confirmed cases of swine flu were identified by March 17th. At the time, 60% of the town's population was already affected by the illness.

Many of the affected people sold their agricultural products or were treated in hospitals at Mexico City (pop: 21.16 million), spreading the disease.
