A surgical tech's salary is determined by the region in which they work. The average hourly rate is different from state to state according to the Association of Surgical Technologits. The Texas average is $18.41hr, New York is $ 19.94hr, Alaska is $20.70hr, and the list goes on and differs in each state. The yearly salary can be determined only by figuring out the region average first.

This is a touchy question. I can tell you that as a professional technician in a new car dealership, there are 2 types of guys that work in the shop. Guys that are just "parts changers" and guess, and then there are the guys that are the technicians who properly diagnose and fix the cars. Trust me when I tell you, the "parts changers" are the ones who are doing brakes, and service work all day making good money, and the guys like me who can fix cars struggle. Long story short, if your considering a job as a technician....go to college for something else!! Just my 2 cents
