Antiviral medications have advanced to the point where they can reduce the numbers of active virus detectable in the blood (viral load) to near zero, however, the person is not cured. The virus is still present in the person's body, and if the drugs were to be stopped, it would again replicate to larger numbers where it could harm the body and be more easily transmitted. A cure would inactivate or kill the virus completely, and that is not happening in this case unfortunately; not yet anyway.
