Neurons send their impulses up and down the spinal cord. The myelin sheath is the coating around the spinal cord that protects it, and works to better conduct the signals along the cord. A neuron that has no myelin sheath will have a harder time conducting signals than one that is covered by the sheath.

Sensory neurons
Motor neurons carry impulses from the central nervous system to muscles or glands, resulting in a response such as muscle contraction or secretion of a substance. The direction of impulse for motor neurons is typically from the central nervous system (brain or spinal cord) to the target muscle or gland.
Dendrites are attaches to the axon terminals of other neurons. The nerve impulse travel from other neurons into the corresponding neuron via dendrites.
Myelinated neurons conduct impulses faster than unmyelinated neurons.
