Melatonin is a hormone our body produces that makes us sleepy. Stop using any electronics at least an hour before bed because the light from the gadgets makes your body stop producing melatonin therefore you won't feel the sleepy effects from the hormone.

That controls sleep and wakefulness. It is the body's natural clock. It is a biological rhythm or cycle of approximately 24 hours.
It would be an overstatement that a gland is responsible for sleep, however, the pineal gland does have some connection to sleep. It secretes a hormone called melatonin which contributes to sleepiness.
Circadian rhythm can occur throughout a 24-hour cycle, primarily influenced by the light-dark cycle of the environment. It regulates various biological processes, including sleep-wake patterns, hormone release, and metabolism. The rhythm typically aligns with daylight hours, promoting wakefulness during the day and sleep at night, but can be affected by external factors like shift work or travel across time zones. Disruptions to circadian rhythms can lead to various health issues, including sleep disorders and metabolic problems.
Circadian clock gene The Clock gene not only controls the body's circadian rhythms, including sleep and wakefulness, body temperature, hormone levels, blood pressure and heart activity, it may also be a key regulator of the brain's reward system.
It is called the Circadian Rhythm.
