My understanding is that Brachytherapy is used to slow down the progression of prostate cancer. But it is not a cure. It is used when the cancer has progressed out side the prostate gland into the lymph nodes in the abdomen. I could be wrong, I have been before :|

In these advanced cases a cure is considered unlikely by whatever treatment, and cure in 100% of cases is just not possible. As applied to localized prostate cancer (which is not common practice) a "cure" is quite possible but the side-effects of treatment are very considerable - osteoporosis. impotence, depression, cognitive depletion, hot flashes, increased weight and so on. There may also be legal problems involved. All in all it is rarely advisable.
