I don't know if it will happen but the visionaries put themselves on the spot if it was not true. I cannot imagine someone making such a claim if they were faking. I mean after all Joey is not a young man, is older than Conchita. He jokes that if God does not cure him soon, he's going to need glasses when he finally does get his new eyes!

Can a person be convicted of a charged if a victim claims to recognize a voice but see no face?

Sure. It all depends on how believable the victim is. If seeing a person was required then a blind person could never be a witness, or a crime that happened in the dark could not be prosecuted.

Is it possible somebody could fake such dire handicaps as total blindness for some bizarre motive Has this ever happened?

Sure, I suppose they could - just watch Season 1 of Arrested Development! I don't know if it's ever happened in real life, but it'd be really hard to keep up the appearance.

What can cause blindness in one eye?

Despite the previous version of the answer, there is no credible evidence at all for radiation from television, cellphones or computers causing either temporary or permanent blindness. Looking at the sun can overwhelm the retinal cells and cause temporary blindness, but may also very easily cause permanent damage. There are a number of causes of temporary blindness, but most temporary blindness results from sudden temporary changes in blood pressure, such as aortic dissection, basilar artery or retinal migraine, cardiac or carotid emboli, choroidal or retinal vascular spasm, hyperviscosity, severe occlusive carotid disease. Stress responses (temporary blindness is sometimes seen in soldiers in conflict) or mild strokes may also have the same effect. Other causes of temporary blindness may result from chemical or biochemical poisons such as Pepper Spray, or plants such as daphne or spurge.

How did Doyle make Holmes death and resurrection believable?

The "death and resurrection" is made believable by saying it never happened. It is the rest of the story where there arise many difficulties. The fight with Professor James Moriarty is believable for Holmes regularly mentions his prowess in fighting. This part of the explanation to Watson in 'The Adventure of the Empty House' is very suspect: "I travelled for two years in Tibet (China), therefore, and amused myself by visiting Lhassa (China) and spending some days with the head Llama. . . . I then passed through Persia (Iran), looked in at Mecca (Saudi Arabia), and paid a short but interesting visit to the Khalifa at Khartoum (Sudan), the results of which I have communicated to the Foreign Office." China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan were as hostile to westerners as they are today. Notice I have not even mentioned the ways Holmes would have had to take to get to these locations. Then we come to the fact "that Mycroft had preserved my rooms and my papers exactly as they had always been." Why did this not raise questions from Watson or Mrs. Hudson?

Are the events at Medjugorje related to Garabandal?

The events at Garbandal are only indirectly related to those at Medjugorje, as well as those at Fatima, Lourdes and elsewhere, in that claims are made that the virgin Mary appeared to young children, usually to leave a message. The Church's attitude to events such as these is one of caution, lest circumstances around the claims bring discredit on the Church, either through evidence of scandal or the possibility that the Church will eventually be embarrassed by contrary evidence. If the claims made at such a site are unlikely to bring discredit and can be useful for raising awareness of the faith or even just for raising revenue, then the Church is likely to move cautiously towards accepting that the apparitions are real. Otherwise the Church will issue warnings against believing claims that may be identical in most respects to those accepted at other sites. The Church has responded positively to the claims made about Garabandal, but not to the claims made about Medjugorje. One could say that this divergence means that the events at Garbandal will ultimately by judged unrelated to those at Medjugorje. For more information, please visit: http://christianity.answers.com/catholicism/visions-of-the-virgin-mary
