Ther is not one single bone that protects both organs. Your sternum protects your heart. Your ribs form a rib cage which protects your lungs.
The ribs and sternum form a cage-like structure called the rib cage, which protects the heart and lungs. It also includes the thoracic vertebrae of the spine.
The breastbone (sternum) and the ribs are connected by cartilage to form the "thoracic cage" that covers the heart and lungs. It is not unusual for ribs to be fractured when using exterior compression on the heart, as is done in CPR.
