In mammals, air enters the lungs through tubes called bronchi, which branch into smaller tubules called bronchioles. These bronchioles extend out to tiny air sacs called alveoli, where gas exchange occurs.
The smallest tube in the lungs is the Bronchus
Tiny tubes in the respiratory system, such as bronchioles and alveolar ducts, are connected to the air sacs, or alveoli. These tubes help in the exchange of gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and blood vessels. The air sacs in the lungs facilitate this gas exchange process by increasing the surface area available for diffusion.

The tiny air sacs are called alveoli. Oxygen from the air enters the bloodstream through the walls of the alveoli, while carbon dioxide from the bloodstream is released into the air sacs to be exhaled.

When we breathe in, air travels down into our bodies through the trachea (windpipe) and into the bronchial tubes in our lungs. These tubes branch off into smaller airways called bronchioles, which lead to tiny air sacs called alveoli where oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is released.
