Chest cavity
The thoracic cavity contains the heart and lungs. The large artery (aorta) that comes off the heart is there as well.
The cardiac notch is a feature of the left lung that accommodates the position of the heart. It allows the heart to fit snugly within the thoracic cavity and provides space for its proper functioning.

Your lungs do not hold the heart. Heart is placed in the mediastinum between both the lungs. Two third part of the heart is on the left side of plane that passes from mid-line. So heart has more impression on the left lung as compared to right lung.
