What could a small lump in the middle of the left side of the neck be?

It could be either a sebaceous gland or a lymph node. Sebaceous gland... that's an oil gland that has become plugged, and because it continues to produce oil (sebum) it gradually swells and becomes a cyst (a fluid filled sac). These can become infected and swell and eventually drain a yellow cheezy-smelling material, a mixture of oil & dead skin cells from the lining of the cyst). Lymph gland...
