What disease makes a child look like a gnome?

There are many diseases that alter a child's appearance, including Down syndrome, Cri-du-chat syndrome or Lejeune's syndrome, and Williams syndrome. But I think you're referring to one of the many genetic disorders that can cause short stature and asymmetrical limb growth, some of which include dwarfism, Russell Silver Syndrome, chondrodystrophy, and many more. Each of these diseases causes specific changes in the growth and appearance of a child, and all often come with a myriad of health and developmental problems.

Can you have the appearance of Down syndrome but not actually have the syndrome?

Who really cares if a child looks normal or not!? God created us all the same, and we shouldn't treat each other differently just because we have a little disability! Calling a disabled child "dumb" or a "retard" is not going to change their life and is only going to hurt their feelings, so why bother?! But the truth is, a child with Down Syndrome is not going to look regular without some major surgery. They will need facial reconstruction, though. But even if you choose to have plastic surgery performed on your child with Down Syndrome or not, just remember to love and take care of him or her. It's the best gift you can give your child, and with the right therapy and attention, your child (and you!) can learn to live a normal, neurotypical life.

How do you learn to accept a child with Down syndrome?

Loving Down Syndrome ChildrenGosh, these children are the most loving, accepting children of all. I am a sub aide for Learning Support children, and in high school babysat for a Down syndrome child, who was the sweetest girl! She always gave me hugs, and wanted to please in any way possible. Very accommodating, loving children/people, as long as they are treated well. Not high maintenance at all.Wow, this is a sad question :( But I had SEX with my son so can we bear children? BTW it felt amazing! He know how to do it. It was hardcore alright! My brother has Down syndrome and he's the greatest thing that ever happened to me. So get over it! :))))))I am a 23-year-old mother of a 4-year-old child with Down syndrome. My son means everything to me; he is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. Raising a child with Down syndrome can be difficult, especially at first, but it is all worth it. My son is the happiest kid I know. He loves to laugh a lot and does everything that a typically advanced child would do... it just takes him a little longer to learn. Just remember that this is your child... YOUR CHILD! =] You should love them unconditionally, regardless if they are born with three legs or 5 eyeballs -- thankfully, however, Down syndrome is not like that at all; you could have it much worse. The poem "Welcome to Holland" -- by Emily Perl Kingsley (see Related Links) -- helped me right away when I found out that my son would be born with Down syndrome. It prepared my mind-set for when he was born. Also look up "birth defects" online... seriously, there are so very many more scary things out there than this.I am not saying that raising a child with Down syndrome is easy or a walk in the park all the time... just most of the time. Seriously, have you ever met, or seen, or even heard of, a child that was completely perfect?

Why does a person look like their parents?

How do you get diagnosed with Down syndrome?

phsychiatrist A Downs Syndrome diagnosis is confirmed with a genetic test, which looks for the extra chromosome (Downs chromosome) that is present. Autistic diagnostic tests such as the CARS, CHAT, ADOS, as well as the Bayleys Scale and Monte Griffiths assesment can be carried out by a psychiatrist (because they rely on observation and parental imput in some parts) but I would recommend seeing a developmental paediatrician because they primarily deal with childrens developmental issues, plus they can along with occupational therapists look for other indicators of autism plus look at whether your child has another developmental problem other than Downs syndrome or autism. They may also test your child's blood for things like lead levels (to rule out lead poisoning) haemogobin levels, and look at if your child may have Fragile X syndrome, or urine testing for metabolic problems or do an EEG to look for indications your child may have had seizures or something else that may have led to regression in your child's development, plus they may get several different tests like hearing tests to rule out deafness or something else that it could be so I would personally recommend a developmental paediatrician because they may take a more wholistic approach and are experts in the field. I hope this has helped you know what to look for. Good luck.
