Looking at your body from the side, note that your spine has an s-shaped curve to it... that helps to balance the body over the pelvis & legs. Some people develop an abnormal curvature with a twist to the spine... this is called "Scoliosis". A good screening test is to have the person in question bend at the waste and let their arms dangle in down in front of them. If they have scoliosis, the upper part of one side of their upper back will look like it has a hump in it. That is a good screening test. The majority of people with scoliosis do not need surgery to straighten the spine, and lead a normal life with it. Google "Scoliosis" for more information...
