My last westie had severe Allergies, and after trying out different remedies we found that cortison was the most effective treatment for her severe skin allergy (at one point she had scratched off ALLher fur). We also had very good results with a drug called "Atopica Vet" (i believe the active ingredient is Ciklospori)
In general we were adviced that cortison would limit her lifespan, she died aged 14 after being on quite high doses of cortison since she was 3 years old.
