A tape worm diet is a method of weight loss that involves the ingestion of an intestinal parasite called a tape worm. Second, the tapeworm can begin to reproduce in the host body, producing larvae that may chew their way through the intestinal walls and attach themselves to the host's other vital organs, causing septic shock or blood poisoning. Tape worm larvae can also make their way to the brain, where they can cause an array of mental health issues and even permanent insanity. Currently, the use of tape worms for dieting is illegal in the U.S. due to the dangers presented to the host, and due to the risk of spreading the larvae to other persons through lack of personal hygiene. It is also illegal to import tape worms into the U.S. whether they are in the body or not. This has lead to the opening of clinics in Mexico where one can ingest the larvae for several thousand dollars. It is strongly advised that people wishing to start any dieting regimen or weight loss program consult their physician.
