The word over jet is used in dentistry to describe the distance between teeth. Often the distance between the maxillary anterior teeth and the mandibular anterior teeth are the ones used for this distance.

Do you get braces for an overjet?

Hi, i'm getting braces in 2 weeks and this first one will be for my overjet. I think its about 9mm and they are clear removable ones but they aren't invisaligns there clear on a few front top teeth and the rest is just metal brace. The advantage is that you only keep them on for a few months. After I have these on i get proper braces on for about a year or less. I've heard from friends that they dont hurt they just ache afterwards for about 2-3 days. Hope this helped xoxo

How do i have to suck your thumb for a overbite?

Depending on your age and the health of your dental structures, the best way is to make sure the intensity, duration and frequency is high (usually 6 or more hours each day). It also helps to exert reasonable pressure on the upper incisors. Note, though, that the older you are and the healthier are your dental structures, the less likely it will create an "overbite", or more correctly, an overjet.

Is sucking your thumb bad?

Though there's a small increased chance of changing your mouth occlusion (open bite and/or overjet) and/or infecting your thumb, and you risk poor social definition, it's a good habit. Good because it's free, legal, convenient, effective at inducing deep, satisfying sleep and instant calm during the waking hours, is quiet, without calories, drugs or alchohol, nonintrusive and more.

Are twin blocks appliance good or bad?

Good. but they are good at pulling your bottom jaw forward.. you only need twin blocks if you have an overbight or and overjet. twin block only work if you are still growing so in girls roughly up to 16 and boys 20. they may be bulky and slightly uncomfortable at first but if you stick with them you can see amazing results for something worn over a shorter period on time that braces... hope this helps

What are buck teeth?

Buck teeth, or the more accurate, technical term: overjet, is a phrase used to describe a particular type of maloclussion where the maxillary incisors, the two upper front teeth, project forward to such a degree that they are very prominent and obvious. In some cases these teeth actually rest on the lower lip while the subject is in the postural, resting position. Often the surrounding upper teeth are also projected forward in an arc but are hidden behind the lips so that the appearance results in only the two front teeth "sticking out" of the mouth.

Can orothdicst fix inter open bite with bad over-jet?

Yes, of course an orthodontist can fix these problems. I know someone with an open bite, severe overjet and crowding as well as anterior teeth at the back not matching with the top. The orthodontist offered braces and a retainer, but unfortunately surgery was clearly the only option she had. Treatment will be done in 2 stages. With the ortho doing whatever he can to fix the problems to start with in an allocated time. The 2nd stage will be what happens after this meaning surgery or your next option. See your orthodontist, he is the only one who can assess you and correctly tell you what you need.

Is it normal to have buck teeth?

Buck Teeth, or more accurately, overjet, is usually obtained by a combination of genetics and oral habits, finger sucking or even playing a clarinet. Disease can play a part in some cases also. In the case of genetics, usually buck teeth occurs when the lower jaw is too small for the upper jaw. Additionally, the resultant protrusion can become more exagerated by the action of the lower lip pushing against the front upper teeth, or by the action of the tongue when swallowing (tongue thrust). Oral habits such as thumb sucking and/or pacifier use can create outward pressures during the growth stages of occlusion resulting in labially (outward direction) tilted occlusion. This pressure can be effective if the gum is diseased or if the bone underlying the occulsion is recessed. In rare cases other causes may be blamed but the above should account for the great majority of instances.

Why have the English Overbite?

The English overbite, also known as overjet, is a dental condition where the upper front teeth protrude horizontally over the lower front teeth. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, thumb-sucking habits, tongue thrusting, or skeletal discrepancies in jaw alignment. Treatment options for an English overbite may include orthodontic interventions such as braces or clear aligners, and in severe cases, surgical correction may be necessary to realign the jaw. It is important to consult with a qualified orthodontist or dentist to determine the best course of treatment for an English overbite.
