Edema, or Oedema, can be caused by Blood Plasma seeping from Blood vessels into adjoining tissue, as a result of a weak point in a Blood vessel. The primary risk is that this seepage point, is the most likely point of a rupture, or Aneurysm.

Does hypoproteinemia cause edema?

Yes, low oncotic blood pressure is a major cause of dependent pitting edema. Proteins in the blood exert an oncotic pull on blood serum which keeps the serum within the blood vessels. A loss of these proteins decreases the ability of the blood to keep serum within the blood vessels and the serum will leak out into the interstitial space. Gravity then pulls the edema fluid downward into the legs.

Why does loss of protein from the blood causes swelling of the tissues?

Loss of protein from the blood, especially albumin, reduces the oncotic pressure in the blood vessels. This results in decreased fluid reabsorption from the tissues back into the blood, leading to fluid accumulation and swelling in the tissues (edema).

Can high blood pressure cause edema?

Think of a hosepipe that has lots of holes in it. These are your "leaky" capillaries. You put the pipe on low (low pressure) on your lawn, the water trickles out of the holes and gets sucked up into the grass. Turn it up onto max (high pressure), the water floods the grass and turns it waterlogged, so much so that the water doesn't get absorbed into the soil so it just sits on top of the grass. That is the link between hypertension and oedema!

Why do the later stages of pregnancy cause edema?

later stages of pregnancy doesn't always cause edema, edema could mean a serious illness call ed pre eclampsia which is high blood pressure caused by pregnancy and it can cause swelling and water retention.

How is high blood hydrostatic produced?

High blood hydrostatic pressure can be caused by conditions such as hypertension, heart failure, or kidney disease. These conditions can lead to an increase in the pressure that blood exerts on the walls of blood vessels, which can result in high blood hydrostatic pressure.

What is a condition during pregnancy marked by high blood pressure proteinuria and edema.?

Pre-eclampsia. If the woman also gets a seizure it is eclampsia.

Can high hydrostatic pressure cause peripheral edema?

Yes, increased hydrostatic pressure can lead to peripheral edema. It is caused by poor fluid reabsorption. There are several causes of peripheral edema including heart failure, pulmonary edema, nephritic syndromes, and lymphedema.
