It was supposed to be the Armistice ending World War I. In practice, while it did effectively end hostilities along the "Western Front", fighting continued for some time in the former Russian Empire and in parts of the Ottoman Empire.
The peace agreement signed at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 was the Armistice of Compiègne, which marked the cessation of hostilities between the Allied Powers and Germany, effectively ending World War I.
