Chlamydia is the most common bacterial infection; HPV is the highest viral infection. HPV has a higher incidence rate than chlamydia.

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease/sexually transmitted infection (STD/STI) in the United States today. Herpes-Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) is the second most common. The most common bacterial STDs are Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, but overall, HPV and HSV are far more common.

Chlamydia ... for those answering questions on Facebook Medical Mayhem

Not all STDs are reportable so it is difficult to know for sure what is the most common. More than likely the most common would be Chlamydia.

Not all STIs are reportable; of the reportable, Chlamydia is the number 1 STD in America.

Chlamydia trachomatis is the bacterium that causes the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the United States today. The CDC estimates that a staggering four to eight million new cases occur each year. The highest rates of infection are among 15- to 19-year-olds.
