I am now 10 days post surgery. Very painful first 8 days due to 2 surgical sites. Able to ambulate now and take much less pain medications. Actually went to a meal out. Each day I am so much better than the day before.

Use the ice packs! Ice worked better than the narcodics. Keep dry and clean. We know someone who developed an internal staph infection 4 week after surgery and had to have the device removed. Yikees.

I used bags filled with rice to elevate areas to keep pressure off the surgical sites. I also bought 1 inch foam in which I made holes around the incisions which I placed under my sheets. This keep the pressure off the woumd itself. A small 4 dollar investment which helped tremendously.

I am 9 days post op and the pain is bad. The ice packs are a blessing. I only sleep on my sides when I can sleep. I was told 3 months for recovery.

What is new in spinal research?

What's new in spinal research? Dr Ames, neurosurgeon from the University of California, developed a revolutionary technique for spinal tumour procedure. In a short video Dr Ames explains what the procedure entails: the removal of the tumour, and rebuilding of the relevant part of the spine. According to a survivor of a spinal tumour, her only perceivable implement, after the procedure, is a stiff neck. According to Dr Ty, from the Chapman Medical Center, and Dr Levy, from Emory University, pain management can be greatly improved by a programmable spinal cord stimulator. The stimulator is designed to interfere with the pain signal path from the spinal cord to the brain, thus preventing the pain signal from reaching the brain. Marcy Newsome, from Brain and Spinal Cord Organisation, provides detailed information of the expected symptoms and consequences relevant to specific areas of the spinal column. Those information helps understanding and working out the best options the patients have.
