There are different answer to this question:

The show is about consciousness and is for people who are not satisfied with the mechanical, habitual thoughts they are made to think. You are not your thoughts. This is not easily described, hence the use of metaphor. Jan may seem to be talking about politics, the church or auto repair, but it is all metaphor, with the intended aim of producing a vantage point within you that can see what is really going on, rather than what you have learned is going on. Look on Google video for jan's Intro, a 13hour crash course designed to separate those who need this type of activity from those who simply Think they do.
