The second rib is classified as an atypical rib because it does not follow the typical rib anatomy pattern. It has a longer and more curved body compared to other ribs, with a prominent angle where it articulates with the sternum. These differences make the second rib distinct from the other ribs in the rib cage.
The clavicle. This bone is normally not consideredto be part of the shoulder an instead a part of the thorax, which is also true. The reason it is part of the shoulder is that it joint part of the scapula to form the soked of the glenohumeral joint.
The cranial portion of the sternum is called the manubrium. It is the top portion of the sternum that articulates with the clavicles and the first rib.
These terms refer to specific anatomical features found in bones. Foramen is an opening in a bone that allows for the passage of blood vessels and nerves. Process is a projection or bump on a bone that serves as a site for muscle attachment. Tubercle is a small, rounded projection on a bone that also serves as a site for muscle attachment. Facet is a small, smooth, flat surface on a bone that articulates with another bone to form a joint.
