Erector spinae are the muscles that move the vertebral column.
It is the largest muscle mass of the back, forming a prominent bulge on either side of the vertebral column.
It is the chief extensor of the vertebral column. It is also important in controlling flexion, lateral flexion and rotation of the vertebral column and in maintaining the lumbar curve, because the main mass of the muslce is in the lumbar region.
Consists of: iliocostalis, longissimus and spinalis.
