You want to avoid overdoing physically. Work toward taking your 10,000 steps a day. Eat a balanced diet--weight watchers is good. Do not do any of the extreme low carb diets. Also, avoid foods with transfats, high fructose corn syrup, and overly processed foods like white breads, cake, cheese, Hot Dogs and such.
