If you suspect someone is choking, you should ask, "Are you choking?" This allows the individual to confirm their condition. If they cannot respond verbally and are in distress, you should proceed to assist them immediately by performing the Heimlich maneuver or calling for emergency help.

If they are coughing, encourage them to keep coughing. DO NOT PAT THEIR BACKS, this may lodge the object further in their throat. If they are no longer coughing, and can not breathe at all, the hiemlec (sp?) maneuver is your best option.
When performing abdominal thrusts (the Heimlich maneuver) on a choking victim, stand behind the person and wrap your arms around their waist. Make a fist with one hand and place the thumb side against the middle of their abdomen, just above the navel. Grasp your fist with your other hand and thrust inward and upward sharply. Repeat until the object is expelled or the victim can breathe or cough.
It varies from case to case. Some factors are how responsive the patient is, and if they are a choking hazard. However, it is definitely not unheard of. Talk to the doc. They may have to do a swallow study, but they can tell you for sure.

you should look in his or her mouth if the object hasn't came out if not , keep doing abdominal thrust until item is out . but if the item is out . you give two rescue breaths and abdominal thrust until child becomes responsive .
The precaution for choking for adults is the same as it is for children. To prevent choking thoroughly chew food.
Call 911! It doesn't matter what the baby is choking on, just that it's choking.
