It is not. It is of English-French origins and means 'black bird.' Perhaps you are thinking of 'Corban.'Mark 7:11But you say, 'If a man says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban"-' (that is, a gift to God),

How is Jesus a priestly person?

Hebrews 9:11-15 11But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Who were some people that were disobedient to parents in the Bible?

The 5th Command to honor our parents has had many examples of people/nations disobeying it in Scripture beginning with Adam & Eve, to the House of Israel, to present day societies:Malachi 1:6New King James Version (NKJV)Polluted Offerings6“A son honorshisfather,And a servanthismaster. If then I am the Father,WhereisMy honor? And if Iama Master,WhereisMy reverence?Says theLordof hostsMark 7:9-13New King James Version (NKJV)9He said to them,“All toowell you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.10For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’;and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’11But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from meisCorban”—’ (that is, a giftto God),12then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,13making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”Religion today uses the reasoning of men and not God to their own failings.

In John's Gospel who was the first to see Jesus and what was this person told by Jesus to do?

Mary Magdalene is the first encounter that is mentioned in John's Gospel, Chapter 20: 1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre...11But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him. 14And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Why does the Holy Spirit give gifts to us?

There are a number of passages where this is outlined: 1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Basically, spiritual gifts are for the good of the body of Christ as a whole as each person uses what he or she has been given for God's glory and the edification, or instruction of others.

Should the church take care of their widows?

According to 1 Timothy 5:9-15 9Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man. 10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;12Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15For some are already turned aside after Satan. I would say that the church has a responsibility to 'Take care' of all of its members in some fashion. For some that will mean helping financially, for others it will mean providing physical help such as jobs that a husband might do that the woman cannot do by herself and can't afford to hire someone. Here, there are many youth and mature men who can provide a small team to help her. There are men who have been widowed who for a time might need help or would greatly appreciate some homecooked meals while they are getting accustomed to being the sole parent, even someone or some family who will invite his children out with them to give the Dad a break or invite him and his children for a meal or an outing to the beach or park etc. There are many, many ways the church can and in my experience, DOES help others in the congregation, including widows.

Is remarriage adultery?

Absolutley, in all cases except one - according to the word of god. There is no ambiguity in this matter. True christian women know the bible and the teachings of christ. The bible is clear on this for women, and there is only once biblical allowance for a man to remarry after a divorce. For the women.. These are jesus's teachings. Mark 10:12 12And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." Luke 16:18 "and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery." God does not recognize remarriage in this case as anything other than sin.. and here he defines who is the adulteress Romans 7:3 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress" female follows of christ will not divorce and remarry 1 Corinthians 7:10-12 10To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. How bad is this sin? 1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judgethe adulterer and all the sexually immoral. The book of proverbs warns men to stay away from this woman called the adulteress.. it will cost a man his soul. Proverbs 22:14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit; he who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it ..For the man... Matthew 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

What are some Old Testament verses about service?

One of my favorite Old Testament books regarding service to others is Ruth. Boaz shows several wonderful examples of attention to the needs of Ruth and Naomi and makes effort to serve them.Ruth 2:8-168Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. 9Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn." 10Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?" 11But Boaz answered her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 The LORD repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!" 13Then she said, "I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants."14And at mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the wine." So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her roasted grain. And she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over. 15When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. 16And also pull out some from the bundles for her and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her."

Is it biblical for someone to be put out of the church?

Yes. It certainly is. The failure of many churches to exercise this biblical practice is one reason many are in such a sorry state. It is never something to be taken lightly and is of course open to abuse. But, simply ignoring open sin in the church is definitely unbiblical as is ignoring false doctrine.1 Corinthians 5 contains both a specific example as well as the rationale for putting a person out of church. Basically if uncorrected the 'bad leaven' will have an effect on the whole church. This is precisely what happens and is happening in churches today which ignore this. Saying 'you shouldn't judge' sounds pious but is a misuse and a mis-understanding of what the Bible teaches, including Jesus Himself. The passage in Corinthians clearly teaches that Christians are to judge other Christians or people who claim to be so. They are of course to be loving and kind to those who are not. The context here is the Christian church. The passage below specifically deals with immoral behaviour. Other passages deal with the importance of pure doctrine. So it is quite biblical and the Bible also sets out the right way to do it, humility being the first requirement.1 Corinthians 5:1-13 1It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,5To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.6Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?7Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:8Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.9I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:10Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.11But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.12For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
