Nobody had to discover insomnia. People have been having trouble sleeping since the dawn of time! Here are some good tips for a good night's sleep: * Follow a regular schedule - go to bed and get up at around the same time every day, even on your days off. * Have a bedtime routine - have certain things you do every night, like brush your teeth, shower, read a book, brush your hair. Any routine is comforting, and sets your body up with the idea that sleep is next. * Make sure that your bedroom is a good place for sleep - don't have a lot of loud noises or light, and have a comfy bed. * Save the bed for sleep - don't use the bed as a theater, restaurant, or library because you want your mind to associate bed with sleeping. * Avoid substances that interfere with sleep - drinking alcohol cause you to wake earlier than normal, caffeine and chocolate can make you restless, and smoking can make it harder to get to sleep. * Exercise regularly - if your body is in good shape, it will get tired at bedtime. Flabby people have more trouble getting to sleep. * Try a light snack just before you turn in. Sometimes hunger will keep you awake.
