Why are you suddenly allergic to everything?

You have to be allergic to something first, it doesn't just happen if you're not. You also need to be exposed to the allergen. If this is your first time you've had an allergic reaction to something, you've probably been exposed to it before at least one other time, because you don't become allergic the first time. The immune system decides to turn against it. The first time it just senses it and you become sensitized. Nothing noticeable happens though. The next time you come into contact with it, you get symptoms.

Some people will develop sensitivities to certain things like cats for example. They have no reaction when they first get a cat, and then years later, they become allergic when they get another cat. This happened to me. The cats dander is what the immune system reacts to; it builds up a tolerance to the dander when first exposed. Then years go by and the person is exposed to the dander again and the immune system overreacts.

Two reasons come immediately to mind.

1) You're not. But, your body changes over time -- all DNA is replaced about every 7 years if memory serves. So, some things you weren't allergic to way back when, you may be sensitive to now and vice-a-versa.

2) I've spoken w/ 2 Vets and a couple of MDs in the last week and they assure me that they see more allergy case and Rx more in August than any other month as everything is propagating -- there's lots more allergens in the regular environment. It generally gets back to normal after the first hard freeze.

If you really want to know what you're reacting to, see an MD who specializes in Allergies and get tested. It's not inexpensive and a somewhat unpleasant experience. But, you'll know (for now) what's causing the reaction.

Our bodies change as we get older. Also, we may have not built up an immunity to them. Possibly because we did not receive allergy shots as children against the specific thing.

Yes, you can. I used to be allergic to pollen, and it would get really bad in the summer, it was hay fever. But I don't get a runny nose, or puffy eyes in the summer anymore.
