Could it be that their drinking just drives people away so they are not close enough to catch the germs? It is probably a myth derived from the anti-viral/anti-bacterial properties of hand cleaners made with 60% rubbing alcohol like waterless hand sanitizers, etc. However, there is no systemic/internal protection from viruses from drinking alcohol, just external cleansing.
