Why do people get their foreskin cut off?

The whole thing is originally a religious ritual carried out by Jews on their children. Muslim do the same because one of their religious leaders wrote that Mohammad was born circumcised. even though there is no reference to it anywhere in their Quaran. It became popular in the united states a couple of hundred years ago because religious puritans claimed that boys that were circumcised were less likely to masturbate, This was at a time when masturbation was considered some sort of mortal sin as it still is by some and the cause of more then a hundred different diseases ranging fro syphilis to insanity. As the reason for the practice became viewed more ridiculous a new reason was thought up, "Hygiene". The fact however is that the practice of circumcision is generally frowned upon by medical experts the world over.

Adults who do it are usually converting to Judaism or have a medical problem where the opening is too small. Parents do it because they are either Jews or Muslims or think it looks better that way or easier to keep clean.

The reasoning that the opening at the end of the foreskin is too small to allow the glans to pass through easily allowing the foreskin to be pulled all the way back is also nonsense as the foreskin can be easily stretched even when it is left to teen age years.
