There can be numerous reasons for inflamed tastebuds. Most commonly the overlooked answer is simply eating food that, temperature wise is too hot. It causes the same burn as a bit of hot water hitting your skin, except the tastebuds become inflamed and swell. usually appearing white. they may take a day or two to go back down, obviously if you are more careful eating or drinking hot foods. If you have them for too long i would suggest seeing a Gp as they may yet be a result of an infection.
