Some people do not feel a compulsion to drink. If they do drink, they feel no compulsion to do it in anything other than moderation. Others do not drink for religious reasons, or because it simply was not acceptable in their family of origin, or because they have seen firsthand the chaos that it causes in the lives of, not just the drunk, but everyone around them. Finally, people who are recovering from Alcoholism and addiction do not drink because to do so could trigger their addictions and they might not be able to stop again.
