You just found out you are pregnant you have a 6 months old and had gestational diabetes that led to a caesarian section Is it safe to stay pregnant and what are the risks if you do keep the baby?

• Yes, it is. You may be considered high risk by some care providers, because of the previous GD but otherwise, you should be fine.

• We usually encourage people to wait at least one year after a vaginal birth and two years after a Cesarean section before trying to be pregnant again. Most physicians now will recommend that women either not attempt VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarean) or do so with the understanding that if anything looks unfavorable, the threshold for going right to a Cesarean section would be very low. The reason is that recent research has shown that attempting labor after having a Cesarean greatly increases the chance of uterine rupture. But again, most physicians would recommend that you let things heal for a couple years before trying to become pregnant again (although you may hear different answers).

Typically if you know you are pregnant and you develop Diabetes but find out about it it is alright. Gestational diabetes (although not the greatest thing to have) is easy to control if you follow the diet. The main thing about gestational diabetes is that you typically have a larger baby. Each pregnancy is different; you might not even develop gestational diabetes during this pregnancy. I would say to stay away from sugar during your pregnancy, follow your diet and talk to your doctor to see what he/she says about this pregnancy.
