If you are at all concerned about a fracture or break, then you should go to a doctor and get xrays. If it is just a twist or sprain, then you should ice it for a few days and then get right to work exercising it, so that scar tissue doesn't build up and totally immobilize it. The fastest and best way to heal a sprained ankle is to do exercises to increase mobility and strength in the injured joint, so long as you don't cause pain. Take it slowly and continue to do exercises specifically designed to help the ankle joint.
The best exercises I've found are in the HEM system for ankle sprains. It worked wonders for me.... http://www.rehabanklesprain.com

If you heard a pop of any kind I would go to the emergency room immediately, but if it is just sore and you can move it, you should be fine. Just apply ice packs for pain and swelling.

you should go to the doctors if the swell doesnt go away.
If you have fallen and twisted your ankle and heard a crack, it's essential to seek medical attention immediately to rule out a serious injury such as a fracture. In the meantime, you should rest, elevate your ankle, apply ice to reduce swelling, and avoid putting weight on it. Avoid moving the ankle and use crutches if necessary until you can get proper medical evaluation.
Go to your family doc or an ENT.
