methodical process
Generally, policies and procedures are usually found in an employee manual (or called employee handbook). These are usually laws or standards that a company wishes to follow to ensure they are in compliance. Some of examples would be the following: dress codes for work, emergency steps to follow, safety in the workforce, and ethics/codes of conduct. Specifcally, a manual can be created for a specific department, like accounting, of certain steps to follow of processing accounts payable/receivables or auditing.
All employees in the organisation should know which policies and procedures are relevant to the work they do and should know how to access the policy and procedure documents held by the organisation. Information about policies can be passes on to employees during induction, at staff meetings, through ongoing training and by ensuring a free flow of information within the organisation. As policies change, are updated or new policies are developed staff must be properly informed. In most medical practices there will be what is called and Office Practice Manual. This manual will contain information about policies and procedures. Staff must know where the document is kept and how to access it.A practice code of ethics (behaviour, conduct, practice) is a document which provides guidelines for staff on their expected behaviours. This document also should be available for staff to access as needed. Other documentation related to policies and procedures might be available from allied health bodies such as the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Studying a company's personnel manual to find loopholes or ways to exploit the system is not a good reason. It is also not appropriate to study the manual only to undermine the company's policies and procedures. Additionally, studying the manual solely out of curiosity without any intention of learning or applying the information provided is not a valid reason.
